ORLANDO, Fla. — Halloween night in Orlando should be warm, breezy and mostly dry, but the weekend turns wet quickly after that, with widespread showers and some thunderstorms moving in Sunday and lingering into Monday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Orlando calls for a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. Saturday under partly sunny skies, with a high near 83. An east wind of 10 to 15 mph could gust to 30 mph. Saturday night brings a 30 percent chance of showers, mostly after 1 a.m., and a low around 73.
The breeze comes from high pressure over the eastern states working with low pressure off the coast, which keeps a steady northeast flow and occasional Atlantic showers pushing inland. Drier air higher up should keep widespread rain away for trick-or-treating, though a stray sprinkle drifting in from the coast Saturday evening cannot be ruled out. It will feel sticky in costume, with high dew points.
Sunday is a different story. Rain chances rise to 60 percent during the day and 70 percent Sunday night, with a quarter to half an inch of new rain possible on Sunday alone. Monday also carries a 70 percent chance of showers and storms. Heavy downpours could cause localized street flooding, mainly in coastal counties and low spots that are already soaked, and a few stronger storms are possible.
Anyone with outdoor plans Sunday or an early drive Monday should keep an umbrella close. Highs drop to near 79 on Sunday and Monday, and nights stay mild, with a low around 70 Sunday night, before conditions start to improve Tuesday.
