ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers are searching for a driver who fled after a Friday night crash on University Boulevard near the University of Central Florida in Orange County that sent several teenagers to the hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver hit two other vehicles and then struck people on foot along the busy corridor. Investigators placed the wreck near University Boulevard and Technological Avenue, an area lined with bars, restaurants and shops.
The patrol first listed four pedestrians, but responders later counted seven teenagers among the injured. Fire Rescue crews from Orange County carried three of the teens to Orlando Regional Medical Center, and four others got to the hospital on their own. One teen was handled as a trauma alert.
The stretch where the crash happened sits less than a mile from the UCF campus, and it draws heavy evening foot traffic from students and diners. Debris and two damaged cars were spread across roughly 100 yards of roadway, and tow trucks worked for hours to clear the scene while lanes stayed blocked.
Fire Rescue officials said no fewer than three of those struck were still in high school. The patrol has not said how fast the fleeing car was going or which way it headed after the crash.
Early reports had eight patients in all, including one person who declined to go to the hospital. Both cars hit by the fleeing driver were Honda Civics, one a 2020 model and the other a 2025.
Troopers had not identified the vehicle or its driver by early Saturday, and conditions for the injured were not released. The investigation remains with the Florida Highway Patrol, and troopers want to hear from people who saw the wreck.
