ORLANDO, Fla. — A driver veered across Colonial Drive in Orlando’s Mills area around 4 a.m. Saturday and smashed through the outdoor seating at The Moderne Bar, wrecking the patio but hurting no one.
Witnesses said the vehicle first drifted into the wrong side of the road before sliding toward the bar and pushing tables and furniture up against the front of the building. The damage runs into the tens of thousands of dollars.
A passerby still dressed for a Halloween party, in a full banana costume, pulled over and called Orlando police. The bar later shared security video of the crash and of the costumed caller on the phone, asking the public to help it find and thank the woman, and the clip spread quickly online.
The owner of The Moderne said some viewers doubted the footage was real and asked whether it had been made with artificial intelligence.
The bar has reopened for customers, though the patio remains closed while repairs are sorted out. The Orlando Police Department had not released details about the driver or whether any charges would follow as of Sunday.
The crash came during a weekend crowded with Halloween parties across Orlando, with costumed partygoers out on the roads well past midnight.
Anyone who saw the crash or has video from nearby businesses can contact the Orlando Police Department,. The woman in the costume and her fiance had been driving home from a party when they came upon the wreck, and bar staff soon nicknamed her their banana hero after the video took off.
