His transition to UCF is anticipated to enhance the team’s performance in the upcoming season, highlighting the growing trend of athletes finding opportunities through the transfer portal.

Orlando, FL – UCF Men’s Basketball has announced the successful enrollment of Devan Cambridge, a forward who transfers from Texas Tech after two seasons, bringing forth a wealth of experience to the roster. Cambridge joins UCF as part of a significant roster overhaul, which has already seen the addition of 10 transfers this offseason.

Cambridge, who has also played for Arizona State and Auburn throughout his collegiate career, will be attending his fourth different school for the upcoming 2025-26 season. His journey through the NCAA has been marked by extensive challenges, particularly related to injury, which limited his playtime significantly.

During his last two seasons at Texas Tech, Cambridge faced serious injury setbacks, appearing in only 14 games combined. He suffered a torn ACL during the 2023-24 season, which hindered his ability to contribute to the team for subsequent years. Prior to his injury issues, he managed to average a career-high of 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game at Texas Tech.

Notably, Cambridge’s most productive season came in 2022-23 with Arizona State, where he participated in 36 games and was a starter in 35 of those, producing averages of 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has played a total of 141 games and started in 78, revealing his extensive experience on the court.

Cambridge’s shooting prowess includes a career 3-point shooting percentage of 29.3%, having attempted a total of 410 three-pointers throughout his time in college basketball. His early days in the NCAA began at Auburn, where he spent three seasons before transferring.

Coming out of high school, Cambridge was recognized as a three-star prospect and ranked as the No. 229 overall recruit in the United States, as well as the No. 53 small forward and No. 8 player overall in Arizona, from Phoenix’s Hillcrest Prep. His transition to UCF has also been facilitated by a recent waiver allowing him a seventh season of NCAA eligibility due to medical hardships.

At UCF, Cambridge will reunite with B.J. Freeman, another former Arizona State player who has also decided to join the Golden Knights this offseason. The addition of Cambridge is a strategic move for UCF as they work to rebuild their team in anticipation of next season.

Overall, Cambridge’s transfer reflects a larger trend within college sports of student-athletes navigating the transfer portal, seeking new opportunities after facing challenges at previous institutions. As UCF prepares for the upcoming season, Cambridge’s experience could play a crucial role in their quest for success on the basketball court.
