UCF football players showcasing their skills at media event

News Summary

Paul Rubelt, a standout offensive lineman from the University of Central Florida, captured attention at the Big 12 Media Days with his juggling skills. Along with his teammates, he discussed the significant transition within the UCF football program as they welcome over 70 new players. Rubelt emphasized positivity and leadership, showcasing his journey from a swimmer in Germany to a key player for UCF while balancing academics and community service. His contributions have earned him a nomination for the prestigious 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Frisco, Texas – Paul Rubelt, a 6-foot-11, 330-pound offensive lineman at the University of Central Florida (UCF), made an impressive debut at the Big 12 Media Days on July 8, capturing attention with his juggling skills. This event not only showcased his athleticism but also provided him with a platform to discuss his role in representing UCF as the football program navigates expectations with over 70 new players joining the roster this season.

Attending along with Rubelt were fellow UCF seniors Myles Montgomery, Keli Lawson, and Nyjalik Kelly. The quartet expressed excitement about the upcoming season as they prepare for a significant transition within the team. Rubelt emphasized the importance of maintaining positivity within the demanding context of football, highlighting a personal philosophy that encourages lightheartedness and joy amidst the game’s intensity.

Throughout his five years at UCF, Rubelt has experienced a coaching evolution, having played under three different head coaches: Josh Heupel, Gus Malzahn, and Scott Frost. He has continually developed his skills and character, earning recognition from Frost, who referred to him as “almost like an ambassador for UCF.” This acknowledgment underscores Rubelt’s importance not just as a player but also as a leader within the program.

Born in Frankfurt-Oder, Germany, Rubelt’s journey to American football is unique. He began his athletic career in competitive swimming before transitioning to football after developing an interest in the sport during an exchange year in Illinois. Starting with flag football at age 13, he quickly advanced to tackle football and subsequently attended several camps in the United States. His impressive performance at these camps earned him a place at UCF, where he has since become a key contributor on the offensive line.

In 2024, Rubelt became a starting right tackle, playing 815 offensive snaps and achieving a pass-blocking grade of 78.7%. His efforts have helped UCF’s football program finish 5th nationally in rushing offense during that season. He is also balancing his athletic responsibilities with academic pursuits, working towards a second degree in kinesiology and maintaining a GPA greater than 3.8. His academic dedication has been recognized with placements on the AAC All-Academic Team and the Academic All-Big 12 Team.

Rubelt’s leadership extends beyond the football field. As president of UCF’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), he actively engages fellow athletes to participate in community service initiatives. Over the past year, he has contributed more than 50 hours of service, including food drives and hospital visits, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the community.

In recognition of his contributions both on and off the field, Rubelt has been nominated for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. This honor is reserved for college football players who demonstrate outstanding leadership and service to their communities. A final roster of 23 recipients for this prestigious team will be announced in September.

As UCF prepares for the upcoming football season with new faces and revitalized energy, Rubelt’s multifaceted role as a player, student, and community leader reflects the values and spirit of the Knights. His journey serves as an inspiration to teammates and fans alike, showcasing how dedication, hard work, and community involvement can lead to success both in sports and in life.
