News Summary

The University of Central Florida baseball team is set to face Oklahoma State in a crucial three-game series. With a current record of 24-20, UCF seeks to bounce back after recent challenges. Key players, impressive offensive stats, and a solid pitching rotation are essential as the Knights aim to improve their standing in the conference. This series marks a significant milestone, being UCF’s first visit to Stillwater for baseball, making it a must-watch event for fans.

Stillwater, Oklahoma – The University of Central Florida (UCF) baseball team is set to embark on a seven-game road trip, starting with a crucial three-game series against Oklahoma State from April 18 to April 20, 2025. The series will take place at O’Brate Stadium, with game times scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+ and on the radio via FM 96.9 The Game.

As UCF heads into this series, the team holds an overall record of 24 wins and 20 losses, and a conference record of 6-15, placing them in a tie for 12th in the standings. Despite recent challenges, including being swept in a three-game series against West Virginia, UCF managed to secure a victory against North Florida, which provides a much-needed boost heading into this road trip. In that game, UCF built an impressive 7-0 lead early on, highlighted by three two-run doubles from key players Andrew Sundean, Edian Espinal, and Dylan King. UCF’s pitching staff also delivered a solid performance, allowing just one unearned run over the final 4.2 innings.

In the series against West Virginia, UCF’s performance demonstrated both resilience and skill, with scores of 4-1, 15-10, and 4-3 in favor of the Mountaineers. Notably, junior outfielder DeAmez Ross stood out offensively, batting an exceptional .750 over the weekend series, contributing nine hits, three doubles, four runs scored, and four RBIs. Senior designated hitter Andrew Sundean also provided a strong offensive presence, with a .462 batting average, incorporating six hits, one home run, and five RBIs throughout the series.

In preparation for the upcoming games, UCF is set to utilize its pitching rotation effectively, with Camden Wicker starting on the mound for Friday’s opener, followed by Russell Sandefer on Saturday, and Matt Sauser on Sunday. This structured approach aims to leverage the strengths of UCF’s pitching staff, which has shown promise throughout the season.

On the other side, Oklahoma State enters the series with a slightly lower overall record of 19 wins and 21 losses, placing them 10th in the conference with a 7-11 record. Both teams were anticipated to compete strongly this season, as Oklahoma State has historically been ranked highly in the Big 12. In terms of their previous encounters, UCF leads the all-time series against Oklahoma State, with six wins to OSU’s three. This series marks a significant milestone, as it is UCF’s first trip to Stillwater for a baseball match.

UCF’s offensive capabilities are noteworthy in the context of the Big 12 Conference, where the Knights currently lead with a batting average of .319, placing them 11th nationally. Individual performances have been key, particularly from DeAmez Ross, who boasts a batting average of .376 this season, ranking him first in the Big 12 and 16th nationally with a total of 70 hits. Moreover, the pitching rotation shows potential, particularly with recent accolades, such as Matt Sauser being named Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Following the series against Oklahoma State, UCF will also face Missouri State on April 23, and will continue to compete against Texas Tech in the subsequent weeks. Each game in this upcoming series is pivotal for UCF as they look to improve their standing within the conference and gain momentum heading into the latter part of the season.
