Scott Frost has returned to the UCF Knights as head coach under a new five-year contract worth $22.1 million. His tenure promises to invigorate the team after past challenges. Frost previously led the Knights to a perfect season in 2017, and his return aims to restore UCF’s status in college football. The new agreement includes performance incentives and a starting salary that parallels his previous role at Nebraska. Orlando, FL – Scott Frost has been reappointed as head coach of the UCF Knights, returning to the university where he previously found remarkable success. The new five-year contract, valued at $22.1 million, will keep Frost at UCF through January 2030, marking a significant moment for the football program and its fans.
Upon his return, Frost’s starting salary for the 2025 season will be $3.9 million, closely mirroring his latest earnings from his prior role at Nebraska, where he earned $4 million. Additionally, Frost’s contract stipulates that if the Knights qualify for a bowl game this upcoming season, an automatic one-year extension will trigger, providing him with a base salary of $5.25 million for this extra year.
Frost’s first tenure at UCF began in December 2015, during which he transformed the Knights from a winless team in 2015 to a respectable 6-7 season in 2016. His most notable achievement occurred in the 2017 season, leading the Knights to an extraordinary perfect record of 13-0, winning a conference championship and finishing ranked No. 6 nationally. This success prompted UCF to extend Frost’s contract in 2017, raising his salary to $2 million per year.
Frost stepped away from UCF and took over the Nebraska football program. However, his time there was marked by difficulties, culminating in a 16-31 record. His tenure at Nebraska ended abruptly three games into the 2022 season when he was dismissed. Following this, Frost did not coach in 2023 and spent the 2024 season as a member of the Los Angeles Rams’ coaching staff.
The terms of Frost’s new contract with UCF include performance-based incentives: $75,000 for reaching a conference championship game, $50,000 for winning a conference title, $100,000 for making an appearance in a College Football Playoff game, and an additional $100,000 for winning a College Football Playoff game, contingent on receiving a first-round bye. Frost is also eligible for bonuses related to team performance, earning amounts for rankings in the top 20 nationally across eight designated statistical categories.
The Knights’ 2025 football season will kick off with an exciting series of three consecutive home games against Jacksonville State, NC A&T, and North Carolina, followed by a away matchup at Kansas State. The return of Frost aims to reignite the spirit of UCF football, aiming for competitive success in the upcoming seasons.
