Orlando – Ten years after the brutal murders of Peterson “Pete” Delhomme and Renee Collins, local police have identified a person of interest in the unsolved case. This groundbreaking development comes as detectives continue to explore the violent deaths of the couple, who were found dead shortly after Delhomme returned home from his overnight shift on July 17, 2015. Collins was with their 2-year-old son at the time, who was luckily unharmed but was discovered walking in his parents’ blood.

The couple’s deaths have been described by investigators as one of the most horrific crime scenes they have encountered in a decade. Signs of a violent struggle were evident, raising significant concerns about the motive for such an extreme act of violence against individuals deemed “no risk victims.” Neither Delhomme nor Collins displayed any red flags in their lives or relationships that would indicate they were in danger or had any known conflicts.

Initial findings revealed that the front door of their apartment was locked when police arrived, suggesting the attacker may not have entered or exited through the main entry point. Detectives suspect that a sliding glass door may have been used for access, although this theory is still under investigation. A bloody knife was discovered beneath their balcony, which authorities believe was not the only weapon involved in the crime. Critical evidence such as fingerprints and a distinctive Nike shoe print found at the scene are currently being re-evaluated, which could lead to new leads in the case.

The investigation faced considerable difficulties, primarily due to the couple’s quiet lifestyle and lack of known enemies, contributing to their classification as low-risk victims. After the original detective on the case retired, the investigation is now led by Detective Annmarie Esan, who has expressed renewed optimism in uncovering more details by utilizing modern forensic technology and perspectives.

The couple had recently relocated to Orlando from West Palm Beach. Collins worked as a service manager at Wells Fargo, while Delhomme held two jobs in security. Family members and investigators remain puzzled as to why the couple were targeted, as they exhibited no signs of danger prior to the tragic incident. Collins’ sister, Angel Bethea, has openly expressed her deep grief and disbelief over the senseless nature of the murders.

As part of the renewed efforts to solve the case, detectives have revisited previously overlooked evidence, including blood smudges and handprints discovered on a door during the initial investigation. Esan suggested that the key to understanding the motive behind the murders may lie in the couple’s potential knowledge of damaging information about someone, further complicating the investigation.

Central Florida has experienced a high volume of unsolved homicides, with 200 cases recorded in 2015 alone, 32 of which took place in Orlando. The difficulties faced by detectives reflect both the overwhelming number of homicide cases and the challenges unique to each investigation. As the authorities continue to pursue leads in this grim case, the hope remains that justice will eventually be served for Delhomme and Collins.
