Firefighters battling a house fire in Orlando

News Summary

Firefighters in Orlando responded promptly to a house fire on Henton Lane, extinguishing the flames swiftly without any injuries reported. The incident drew multiple calls from neighbors, highlighting community awareness. This fire marks another incident following a significant blaze during Hurricane Milton. Fire departments now emphasize fire safety amid ongoing investigations into the recent blazes, one of which also involved rescuing pets. A local restaurant owner faced loss due to a separate fire, prompting community support and a call for enhanced fire protocols.

Orlando – Firefighters responded to a house fire on Henton Lane on Saturday night, quickly extinguishing the flames and preventing any injuries. Upon arrival, fire crews observed visible flames and smoke, prompting immediate action to control the situation. Fortunately, no individuals required medical assistance, and one person was displaced but did not seek help from the Red Cross.

The Orlando Fire Department reported that dispatch logs indicated multiple calls from neighbors alerting authorities to the incident. The fire, while active upon the firefighters’ arrival, was quickly managed, and authorities confirmed that it is now fully extinguished.

This fire on Henton Lane follows a history of similar incidents in the area, particularly noted during Hurricane Milton in October 2024 when a power line fell and sparked a significant fire at a nearby residence. That previous incident created challenges for fire crews due to an active power line, which impacted their efforts to contain the fire effectively. Unfortunately, during that event, one firefighter suffered an electrical shock while returning to the scene after initial crews had left, allowing the fire to escalate. Despite firefighters’ requests for assistance from the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) to manage the power hazards, no response was received.

In light of the complications experienced during the previous house fire incident, the president of a local fire union has called for a comprehensive investigation into the response protocols used during firefighting operations. The Orlando Fire Department has since reviewed the previous incident and reported that their established protocols now adequately address similar challenges.

In addition to the Henton Lane fire, firefighters also responded to another incident on Lake Marsha Drive on Thursday. Like the recent fire on Henton Lane, there were no reported injuries, although the house suffered extensive damage. The Lake Marsha Drive fire is believed to have originated on the patio, potentially involving a gas grill. Firefighters successfully rescued two dogs that were trapped inside the home during this incident.

Fire safety tips related to grill usage have been circulated in light of these recent events, highlighting the importance of regular cleaning of grill components to prevent accidental fires.

Moreover, a separate fire occurred in Fern Park, affecting the residence of Maxine Earhart, a local restaurant owner. Alerted to the flames by a couple passing by, Earhart lost her sewing studio and a significant amount of memorabilia in the blaze, although she managed to save some belongings. Fire crews from Seminole County and Maitland were on the scene quickly to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have started in a shed located between two homes. The State Fire Marshal’s office is currently investigating the cause of the fire, which has been categorized as undetermined, with no evidence of an explosion found.

In the wake of the Fern Park incident, the community has rallied together to support Earhart as she faces the aftermath of the fire. This response showcases the solidarity of the neighborhood and the willingness of residents to assist one another during challenging times.

As ongoing investigations continue into these recent fires, local fire departments emphasize the importance of fire safety measures and preparedness to help prevent such incidents in the future.
