High school teams compete at the 1st Annual Florida Hoopfest in Orlando.
The 1st Annual Florida Hoopfest in Orlando brought together high school basketball teams from various states to showcase their skills and compete for glory. The tournament featured thrilling matchups, standout performances, and an electrifying atmosphere as teams vied for victory. With Duncanville Panthers and Pebblebrook Falcons delivering remarkable games, the event set the stage for future basketball talent.
Orlando, Florida has recently become a hot spot for basketball excitement with the kickoff of the 1st Annual Florida Hoopfest. High school basketball teams from various parts of the country gathered to display their talent, determination, and skills. Four teams from three different states faced off in thrilling matchups, setting the stage for future state championships.
In the opening game of the event, the Duncanville Panthers took on the Blake Yellow Jackets. Right from the tip-off, Duncanville made it clear that they were there to win, jumping to a quick 9-0 lead. The Panthers, led by TCU commit Kayden Edwards, scored a dominant 79-65 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Edwards, showing off his incredible skills, scored the first seven points of the game and ended up leading his team with an astonishing 30 points and 10 rebounds. By the end of the first quarter, Duncanville had already established a 19-6 lead.
As the game progressed, the Panthers continued to shine, extending their halftime lead to an impressive 40-19. The Blake Yellow Jackets, however, did not go down without a fight. They fought back in the fourth quarter, managing to narrow the deficit to single digits, but Duncanville quickly regained control and sealed the game with a 13-point lead.
The standout player for the Blake Yellow Jackets was Joshua Lewis, who put on an impressive performance with 29 points. His teammate, Jojo Philon, also contributed significantly with 20 points. Even though the Yellow Jackets faced a tough opponent in Duncanville, their performance left fans excited for their next game against North Broward Prep slated for the following day.
In another exciting matchup, the Pebblebrook Falcons clashed with the Oak Ridge team, where Pebblebrook emerged victorious with a score of 77-62. Jaylen Humphrey led the way for Pebblebrook, scoring 17 points and adding 6 rebounds. Other notable players for Pebblebrook included Zyree Brown, with 13 points, and Fallou Dioum who contributed 12 points. On the other side, Oak Ridge was led by Jalen Reece, a future LSU player, who managed to score 26 points along with 6 assists.
As the tournament rolled into day two, anticipation built for the upcoming games. The schedule featured the Blake Yellow Jackets going up against North Broward Prep at 4:30 PM, followed by a highly awaited face-off of the Duncanville Panthers against Oak Ridge at 6:00 PM.
In a spectacular display that excited fans, Duncanville once again faced Oak Ridge and pulled off an exhilarating win in double overtime with a score of 95-90. Kayden Edwards showcased his aptitude for scoring, dropping an incredible 45 points during the game. Not far behind, teammate Deuce Hunt added 23 points to help secure the thrilling win. Jamier Jones of Oak Ridge also lit up the scoreboard with 41 points despite the loss, making the game a memorable event for all involved.
As it stands, Duncanville boasts a record of 9-3 this season, while Oak Ridge stands at 7-5. The Florida Hoopfest not only highlighted the impressive abilities of high school players, but it also brought together some of the best basketball programs in the nation, leaving fans eager for what the rest of the tournament holds.
