"Orlando's Holiday Tree Lighting Kicks Off Festive Season 2023"
Orlando, Fla. – The holiday spirit came alive in Orlando as the city celebrated its annual tree-lighting ceremony at Lake Eola on Friday evening. This festive event marked the beginning of the season for many local residents and visitors alike, featuring a dazzling 64-foot Christmas tree that was adorned with 2,000 ornaments and over 200 pounds of lights.
The ceremony was a collaborative effort between local officials and the community, with key figures including Bridgett Ellison, Crystal Moyer, Candace Campos, and Trooper Steve Montiero participating in the official switch-flipping. Their efforts were complemented by exciting musical performances that filled the air with seasonal cheer.
During the celebration, attendees witnessed the spectacular illumination of the Christmas tree, which was synchronously lit with the Lake Eola fountain‘s musical performance. The event was free to the public, allowing families and friends to come together and revel in the holiday atmosphere. For those who could not attend the tree-lighting on Friday, the synchronized light-and-music show will continue every evening through January 6, taking place hourly from 5:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
The holiday festivities at Lake Eola are far from over. The Merry Market, featuring local shopping from over 30 vendors, will run each weekend until December 22. Families can also look forward to special appearances from Santa Claus, who will be available for visits at the Eola House, and experience snowfall in Florida, bringing a touch of winter wonder to the Sunshine State. The holiday fun will also include movie nights on the east lawn.
This annual event plays a crucial role in uniting the community and marking the start of the holiday season. It fosters a sense of belonging and togetherness among residents while supporting local businesses at the Merry Market. Additionally, new for this year, DTOLive will provide musical entertainment at the Lake Eola Park amphitheater every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening leading up to Christmas. This aspect of the celebrations not only enhances the festive spirit but also gives local musicians a platform to showcase their talents.
In a highlight of the season, on December 21, a spectacular drone show presented by AdventHealth will illuminate the skies over Lake Eola. This event promises to be an extraordinary visual experience for attendees, contributing to the holiday excitement in downtown Orlando.
For those looking to join in the festivities, all the details can be found on the city’s interactive map, which provides information about nearby parking lots and garages. The holiday experiences are designed to cater to individuals and families, ensuring that the magic of the season is accessible to everyone.
Orlando’s Lake Eola Park has firmly established itself as a central hub for holiday activities, bringing joy, unity, and a sense of celebration to the community. With ongoing events and activities, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the cheerful atmosphere as the year comes to a close.
