The Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival celebrated its 34th year from May 13-26, 2025, drawing record attendance and participation. This year’s theme was “Let Your Fringe Flag Fly.” The festival boasted the participation of over 1,400 artists from around the globe, showcasing a diverse selection of 107 shows at various venues within Loch Haven Park. Attendance reached approximately 55,000 over the festival’s duration, reflecting strong community support.
The festival featured several new and engaging experiences, including a Kids Fringe Children’s Entrepreneur Market that presented over 50 young vendors, a reimagined Late Night Series, and the introduction of a Club Fringe Lounge. Nightly entertainment included games of bingo and live bands. Another exciting addition was a break dancing competition held on the Outdoor Stage, which saw participation from over 20 dancers.
The artistic offerings comprised a variety of genres, with performances ranging from theatre and dance to spoken word, musicals, and comedy. Notable highlights included the Visual Fringe Gallery, a Body Painting and Fashion Show, and a Rainbow Art Market. The Kids Fringe also produced its inaugural show, titled “Ruff,” featuring more than 100 young performers.
Additions to the festival’s programming included the Fringers of the Future initiative, which showcased original works from three local high schools. One school notably received accolades, achieving a clean sweep of awards.
The festival credits part of its success to the dedication of 156 volunteers, who collectively contributed 2,859 hours to ensuring the event ran smoothly. The artistic director remarked on the vibrant atmosphere, noting the strong levels of engagement from audiences and artists alike. The Director of Experience emphasized the ongoing need for community support for artists beyond the festival, which is crucial for maintaining a thriving arts scene in Orlando.
Festival Managers underlined their commitment to elevating local voices while also welcoming touring artists to the event. During the festival, five venues throughout Loch Haven Park were utilized, including the Lowndes Shakespeare Center and the Orlando Family Stage. Additionally, Bring Your Own Venues (BYOVs) featured both returning locations and new counterparts like Ten10 Brewing Co.
Emphasizing an inclusive environment, the festival maintained a fully uncensored and unjuried approach to programming, with 100% of ticket sales going directly to the artists, thus supporting their endeavors in the arts. The event celebrated creativity while highlighting issues facing the artistic community, including concerns regarding political motivations against the arts in Florida.
Amidst the festival, the Orlando Family Stage announced its preliminary season lineup for 2025-26, in line with its centennial celebration. Other arts-related events included the 23rd Annual Cappies Awards, which honored high school theatrical achievements, and an announcement of the 2025-2026 season by Opera Grand Rapids. The Gold Coast Jazz Society concluded its own season with a performance from the Luciana Souza Trio.
A free political panel, featuring local political figures and creatives, took place on May 25, addressing the implications of political changes on the arts community in Florida. The panel discussions underscored the urgent need for continued community support, which led to donations that fundraised $9 million for over 40 local arts organizations through the United Arts Collaborative Campaign.
The Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival has not only enriched the central Florida cultural landscape but has also fostered an engaging and supportive atmosphere for artists and audiences alike.
