Orlando's May 2025 Events: A Month of Community Engagement

Orlando is set to host a variety of activities and events throughout May 2025, catering to diverse interests and fostering community engagement. This month’s calendar includes workshops, wellness fairs, garden tours, and cultural celebrations, providing residents and visitors with ample opportunities to learn, socialize, and enjoy the local scenery.
One of the first events is the How to Grow Oyster Mushrooms Workshop on May 2 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County. Participants will learn about fungi anatomy, growth habits, and edible uses, while also creating a mushroom grow bag for a fee of $20.
On May 3, those interested in fitness can participate in the Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club Event, which offers two distances of 5K and 10K starting between 8 and 8:45 a.m. at Marks Street Senior Recreation Complex. The cost is $4 per person, but walkers aged 12 and under can participate for free. Also on the same day, a Grilling for Beginners Workshop will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County for $30, covering the basics of grilling and meat selection.
The Veterans Wellness Fair is scheduled for May 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Barnett Park – Pavilion 3, offering free resources on mental health and wellness specifically catered to veterans and their families.
If you’re a coin enthusiast, the Coin Show on the same day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maitland Civic Center presents a fantastic opportunity to meet over 30 dealers and even submit coins for grading. Admission is complimentary.
Families can take advantage of the 50th Annual Bromeliad Exhibition and Sale on May 9 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Orlando Fashion Square. This event allows attendees to explore various bromeliad plants, with free entry for all. Later that day, the City of Ocoee Centennial Celebration will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. at Bill Breeze Park, featuring live music, food trucks, and local vendor booths, all at no cost.
For those inclined toward literature, the Orlando Book Festival on May 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orlando Public Library will feature panels and talks from local authors, culminating with a keynote speech by Brad Meltzer. Registration for the keynote is required, but the event itself is free.
Aiming to promote environmental awareness and skills, various workshops will also be held this month. The Herb Container Gardening Workshop will take place on May 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Harry P. Leu Gardens for $35 for members and $40 for non-members, teaching participants to grow herbs in small spaces.
On May 17, attendees can participate in the Adopt-A-Tree Event at Dr. P. Phillips Community Park from 8 a.m. to noon. Orange County residents can receive up to two trees for free with proper identification. Also, the Basics of Landscaping Workshop on May 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. at UF/IFAS Extension will provide knowledge on eco-friendly landscaping for $25.
