Cocoa Beach, FL – A 55-year-old man from Orlando, Scott Niele, was arrested on May 3 after allegedly assaulting an 80-year-old parking enforcement specialist. The incident took place around 3:11 p.m. on the east end of Pulsipher Avenue following a confrontation over a parking citation Niele received for exceeding the posted time limit.

Niele expressed his anger over the citation by approaching the parking enforcement specialist’s vehicle and yelling through the window. During this confrontation, he threw the citation inside the vehicle, reportedly striking the worker in the face with his hand.

In response to the assault, local authorities issued a “be-on-the-lookout” alert for Niele’s vehicle. Shortly thereafter, Florida Highway Patrol troopers located the vehicle traveling on State Road 528, just outside Brevard County. Cocoa Beach police officers responded to the traffic stop and arrested Niele without further incident.

The Cocoa Beach Police Department has confirmed that Niele is facing charges of battery on a person 65 years of age or older, as well as burglary with battery. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Brevard County Jail.

Cocoa Beach Police Chief Collin Mullins expressed strong disapproval of Niele’s conduct, noting that the situation pertained to a civil issue regarding a parking fine. Chief Mullins reiterated that while Cocoa Beach welcomes visitors, any form of violence against city employees will not be tolerated.
