Festival-like atmosphere at new restaurants in Orlando where locals enjoy diverse cuisines.
Orlando is witnessing a culinary boom with several new restaurants that offer a mix of contemporary and traditional cuisines. Notable additions include June, a contemporary Mexican kitchen, and Sushi Izuki, offering modern omakase by Chef Leo Chen. Other openings include Flavors of Jamaica, PopStroke, Zaza Cuban Comfort Food, and Dough Boyz Pizzeria. Additionally, special event dining experiences like Hikiniku to Sumi and Domu’s Wieners & Wine Down are set to enhance the area’s vibrant food culture.
Orlando is experiencing a vibrant culinary boom with an array of new dining options that promise diverse flavors and engaging dining experiences. Several restaurants have recently opened their doors, offering a mixture of contemporary dishes and traditional cuisines to the residents of this vibrant city.
Among the latest additions is June, a contemporary Mexican kitchen infused with Asian influences, which has established itself at 700 E. Washington St. in Thornton Park. This new venture has taken over the site formerly occupied by Graffiti Junktion and has undergone a significant makeover by Team Market Group, known for their expertise in the restaurant industry.
Another noteworthy entry to the Orlando dining scene is Sushi Izuki, now serving customers at 8685 Fenton St. near South Apopka-Vineland Road in O-Town West. This restaurant features a unique blend of modern and traditional omakase prepared by chef Leo Chen, who is an esteemed culinary talent previously associated with Neta Shari, a Michelin Guide-listed restaurant in Brooklyn from 2022 to 2024. Chef Chen is striving for a Michelin star for his new establishment.
Meanwhile, Flavors of Jamaica, which already operates successful locations in Kissimmee and Ocoee, is set to launch a new space at 2610 S. Ferncreek Ave. in SoDo, further expanding its reach and culinary offerings in the Orlando area. Additionally, PopStroke, a venture backed by golf legend Tiger Woods, is preparing to open at 5487 Hamlin Groves Trail in Winter Garden this August. This new location will focus on a “chef-driven food and drink experience” enhanced by innovative technological features.
Expanding on the array of new restaurants is Zaza Cuban Comfort Food, which has recently opened its seventh location at 191 State Road 436 in Fern Park. Known for its authentic Cuban dishes, this establishment is a testament to the growing popularity of Cuban cuisine in Orlando. Dough Boyz Pizzeria, known for its grandma-style pizza, has also opened a second location at 201 W. State Road 434 in Longwood, catering to the local demand for quality Italian food.
In addition to these new openings, Hikiniku to Sumi is introducing a Japanese wagyu hamburger concept by Lewis Lin. This unique dining experience will be available on July 4, July 10, and July 11 at Juju, offering gourmet wagyu hamburgers accompanied by various sides for $45. Furthermore, a live butchery demonstration featuring Noriaki Numamoto from Takamori is scheduled at Palm Beach Meats on July 16, followed by a multicourse dinner focused on wagyu delicacies.
Another exciting event in the area is Domu’s Wieners & Wine Down event planned for July 16 from 5:30-9 p.m. at East End Market. This gathering will offer Venezuelan-style hot dogs, light bites, and beverages for just $20, providing an affordable and delightful culinary experience. Following this, on July 17, fans of gourmet dining can enjoy a collaborative five-course meal at Paddlefish by chefs Steven Richard, Justice Placeres, and Michael Collantes for $125 plus taxes and fees.
In another part of Orlando’s evolving restaurant scene, Garni Cafe has opened in the Lake Nona neighborhood, joining the culinary roster of the Wave Hotel. However, not all changes are positive; the City Food Hall in Ivanhoe Village has closed Chez Les Copains, a modern brasserie, while Orlando’s oldest diner, the College Park Diner, has permanently closed its doors.
The developments in Orlando’s dining landscape reflect a significant evolution, with a noticeable trend towards gourmet restaurants and themed culinary experiences. As the city continues to grow, the options for food enthusiasts have never been more exciting, offering something for every palate.
