Oxford, Mississippi – Big news is making waves in the world of Ole Miss women’s basketball! The team has just secured the commitment of Kaitlin Peterson, a talented guard transferring from UCF. This is a thrilling addition for the Rebels, who are gearing up for another competitive season.
Standing at 5-foot-9, Peterson is a force to be reckoned with on the court. Last season at UCF, she made her mark by averaging a whopping 21.4 points per game, making it the highest single-season scoring average in UCF’s program history! This strong performance undoubtedly caught the attention of Ole Miss coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, who is on a mission to rebuild the roster after losing several senior players to graduation.
Before her impressive tenure at UCF, Peterson began her collegiate journey at Indiana University. Unfortunately, her time there included some challenges, with only six games played during her sophomore year. However, she bounced back and thrived once she transferred to UCF, leading the Big 12 in scoring during her junior season with an impressive 20.7 points per game. With one year of eligibility left, she’s excited to make the most of her final season playing under the Ole Miss banner.
Peterson has a knack for high-scoring games. One of her standout performances included a jaw-dropping 39-point game against Texas Southern, earning her a spot as the fourth-highest single-game scorer in UCF history. In just 55 games with the Knights, she reached the 1,000 career points milestone, finishing with a total of 1,156 points. Such a fantastic achievement demonstrates her incredible talent and will undoubtedly make her a valuable asset for Ole Miss.
Before stepping onto the college scene, Peterson was already a standout player at Eufaula High School in Alabama. She scored an astounding 2,967 points throughout her high school career and earned All-State honors four times. With averages of 25 points, 5.7 steals, 4.9 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game during her senior season, it’s no wonder she was considered a 3-star prospect.
Ole Miss fans have some exciting times ahead as Peterson joins other transfer commitments like Latasha Lattimore and Jayla Murray for the 2025-2026 season. The Rebels finished their last season with a solid record of 22-11 and made it all the way to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. With an average of 36 minutes on the court per game in her most recent season, Peterson is known for her reliability, especially as a shooter with a penchant for hitting three-pointers. During her last season, she made 45 three-pointers, and her skill set will certainly help fill the void left by the departing seniors.
