News Summary

An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for much of Central Florida as temperatures are expected to soar dangerously. Highs could reach 100°F inland and feel as hot as 115°F due to humidity. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak hours and stay hydrated. The high-pressure heat dome causing this situation poses severe health risks like heat exhaustion and stroke, with caution being urged to mitigate risks. While with Brevard County under a Heat Advisory, relief from these extreme temperatures is limited for now.

Orlando, Florida – An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for much of Central Florida as a dangerous heat wave intensifies, with high temperatures expected to reach alarming levels on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The warning is issued from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and warns residents of the severe health risks associated with extreme heat.

Temperature forecasts predict highs around 100°F inland, while coastal areas may see mid-90s. In Orlando specifically, temperatures are predicted to hit 99°F, which could tie a record set in 1949. However, the discomfort will be exacerbated by high humidity levels, making it feel like temperatures may soar as high as 115°F. A heat index above 105°F is expected for several hours, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related health issues.

The National Weather Service has issued the Extreme Heat Warning due to forthcoming conditions deemed extremely dangerous. This categorization is distinct from a Heat Advisory, which signifies less severe heat conditions. The intense heat is attributed to a heat dome, a high-pressure system that traps heat in the area and inhibits the formation of rain.

Normally, the high temperature for Orlando during this time of year is around 92°F, a threshold that typically remains below these dangerous levels. The current heat wave has already yielded record-setting temperatures in three cities, including Orlando, where the temperature reached 98°F earlier in the day. Additionally, since the year 2000, Orlando International Airport has recorded temperatures of 100°F only twice, with the last instances occurring in 2015 and 2023.

Weather officials recommend that residents postpone outdoor activities during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and seek shade whenever possible. It is crucial to remain in cool environments especially during the worst of the heat stretches in the day and evening. Although a few spotty storms may roll in later in the evening, relief from the searing heat is expected to be limited.

Brevard County is the only county in the region not under an Extreme Heat Warning, but it remains under a Heat Advisory until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Under this advisory, heat index values have been forecast to reach up to 112°F.

The extreme temperatures pose significant health risks, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, with symptoms such as confusion, dizziness, nausea, and heavy sweating. Officials urge residents to stay vigilant as these rare and dangerous heating conditions can threaten life and property if ignored.

Looking ahead, a change in weather patterns may bring increased chances of rain towards the end of the week, potentially resulting in a decrease in temperatures, settling in the low 90s.
