A scene from the Black History Month Art Exhibition featuring local artists' interpretations of labor and Black culture.
Central Florida is all set to honor Black History Month with a series of engaging events. Kicking off with an art exhibition, the month will highlight the theme ‘African Americans and Labor’ through impactful artistic expressions. Community gatherings, screenings, and artist receptions will foster discussions around the contributions of Black Americans while celebrating cultural heritage. Mark your calendars for various activities throughout February to join in the festivities.
Orlando is gearing up for a vibrant and engaging celebration of Black History Month, and the community is invited to join in on the festivities. This year, the theme being spotlighted is African Americans and Labor, highlighting the invaluable contributions and significant roles that Black Americans have played in shaping the workforce—not just in Central Florida, but across the nation and the globe.
The fun begins with the Opening Reception of the Black History Month Art Exhibition on February 5, 2025, from 5–8 pm at the Terrace Gallery located inside Orlando City Hall. This exciting exhibition features art from 33 local visual artists, all inspired by the current theme. Visitors can expect to see works that explore the intersection of labor and Black culture, showcasing the incredible talent of local creators.
This vibrant visual feast will be on display until March 30, 2025, allowing plenty of time for residents and visitors alike to experience the stories and messages conveyed through art. Plus, complimentary parking is available at the City Commons Parking Garage, located at 460 Boone Avenue, making it easy to stop by and enjoy what’s on offer. RSVPs for the opening reception are encouraged, and you can easily sign up at orlando.gov/bhm.
Attendees will not only enjoy this enlightening documentary but also be treated to food, entertainment, and captivating performances by the City Beautiful Voices. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate cultural heritage, as prior and post-screening panel discussions featuring local leaders will provide further insight into the themes presented.
As with all the wonderful events lined up, RSVPs are appreciated for this gathering as well, which can also be made at orlando.gov/bhm.
So mark your calendars, invite your friends, and get ready to dive into Orlando’s Black History Month festivities. Whether you’re a lover of art, a fan of thought-provoking discussions, or simply looking to connect with your community, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Let’s unite and celebrate together!
