On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 277 resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man from St. Cloud and several injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. when the man was driving a 2015 Genesis GV80. It remains unclear why he ran off the roadway into an active construction site, where his vehicle collided with a construction tractor.

The driver of the construction tractor, a 55-year-old man from Summerfield, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. The driver of the Genesis GV80 was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and was subsequently transported to South Lake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In total, four vehicles were involved in this tragic incident.

A third vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old man from Orlando, was also involved in the crash and suffered minor injuries, requiring transportation to a nearby hospital. A fourth vehicle, operated by a 25-year-old man from Clermont, struck debris from the incident but fortunately, the driver was not injured.

The crash caused significant traffic disruption, leading to the temporary closure of all southbound lanes on the Turnpike for several hours. Traffic was detoured at Exit 278 in Minneola, with delays extending nearly 8 miles to before Exit 285 at U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg.
