Orlando Sees New Dining Hotspots Amid Closures

Orlando is welcoming several new dining experiences, including Pig Floyd’s and Kappo Tsan, while also facing restaurant closures such as Melt Brownie and Soho Juice Co. As the restaurant scene evolves, food enthusiasts can expect bold flavors, innovative cuisine, and interactive dining options in the coming months.

New Openings in Orlando

Pig Floyd’s has opened at 1471 Lee Road in Winter Park, taking over the former Bubbalou’s space. The eatery features a menu that blends Asian and barbecue flavors with offerings like “Bori-Chino” wok bowls, crispy chicken bánh mì, and traditional barbecue staples. Pig Floyd’s also boasts a spacious patio for outdoor dining and will soon add a drive-thru option for convenience.

Another notable opening is A Gourmet Chinese Cuisine at 1101 E. Colonial Drive, previously known as Chuan Lu Garden. After a significant remodel, the restaurant has reopened to offer a variety of authentic Sichuan dishes and dim sum.

Coming this fall is Selva Rosa Cocina & Bar, located at the former Teak Neighborhood Grill site at 901 S. Orlando Ave. in Maitland. This new venue will blend Mexican, Latin American, and Asian flavors to create a unique dining experience.

The popular Salty Donut will be launching its second location at Vineland Pointe, featuring a range of year-round and seasonal donuts, along with breakfast and lunch items. Meanwhile, Arcade Time has opened its doors at 6464 International Drive, marking Orlando’s first 24-hour arcade and restaurant. The venue features over 300 games, a pinball alley, dining options, and two cocktail bars for guests to enjoy.

Also making a comeback is Cornerstone Pizza, which has relaunched at 1513 E. Michigan Ave. after more than two decades. A parking lot party is scheduled for September 6 to celebrate its return. In addition, Hoshi Hibachi & Sushi is set to debut later this month in the Fort Gatlin Shopping Center.

Recent Closures

Melt Brownie ceased operations less than a year after launching at 110 N. Orlando Ave. in Maitland. Additionally, Soho Juice Co. has closed after an eight-year tenure at the corner of Fairbanks and South Orlando avenues in Winter Park.

Upcoming Events and Festivals

10th annual International Food & Drink Festival is scheduled for September 20 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Festival Park, featuring live music, food-eating contests, and diverse cuisines. Admission to the festival is free.

The Dinner Party Project is also hosting a “So Long Sweet Summer” dinner on September 27 at 6:30 p.m. in College Park, featuring a six-course dinner priced at $145, with an additional $65 for pairing options.

In November, tickets are available for the fifth annual Ocala Food & Wine Festival, to be held from November 7-9 at the World Equestrian Center. This exciting event will feature celebrity chefs and grand tastings for food lovers to enjoy.

Future Dining Experience at Kappo Tsan

Kappo Tsan is set to open later this fall at 11815 Glass House Lane in O-Town West, offering a unique 30-seat Japanese dining experience. Executive Chef David Tsan, in collaboration with restaurateurs Jimmy and Johnny Tung, has crafted an interactive dining concept featuring a six-seat chef’s counter, where patrons can indulge in a tasting menu available on Fridays and Saturdays, along with an à la carte menu at the main bar.

Signature dishes at Kappo Tsan will include mapo tofu made with Japanese ingredients, shirako with dashi butter, and Taiwan beef noodle soup. The restaurant will also have an extensive sake and wine list curated by a MICHELIN-awarded sommelier.

With a mix of new trails and the closing of familiar spots, Orlando’s dining scene continues to thrive and evolve, offering residents and visitors alike a wide array of culinary experiences to explore.
