AdventHealth Orlando, formerly known as Florida Hospital Orlando, is a prominent non-profit medical institution located at 601 East Rollins Street in Orlando, Florida. Established in 1908 by Seventh-day Adventists committed to holistic health—addressing body, mind, and spirit—it has evolved into one of the nation’s largest healthcare providers.

Facilities and Services

As the flagship of the AdventHealth network, AdventHealth Orlando is part of a system encompassing over 20 hospitals and emergency rooms, more than 300 AdventHealth Medical Group practices, and numerous outpatient services across Central Florida. The hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical specialties, including cancer treatment, diabetes and endocrinology, neurology and neurosurgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Recognition and Rankings

AdventHealth Orlando has consistently received high accolades for its medical excellence. For 14 consecutive years, it has been ranked as the No. 1 hospital in the Orlando metro area by U.S. News & World Report. In the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals rankings, it was nationally recognized in four clinical specialties.

Historical Milestones

  • Founding and Early Years (1908-1986): The hospital began as Florida Sanitarium, a 20-bed facility in a former farmhouse. Over the decades, it expanded its infrastructure and services, adopting modern medical practices and increasing its capacity. In 1970, it was renamed Florida Hospital Orlando.

  • Recent Developments (2019-Present): In January 2019, the hospital rebranded to AdventHealth Orlando. Subsequent years have seen significant expansions, including a major emergency department enlargement and the installation of an 850-kilowatt solar panel carport to enhance sustainability.

Community Engagement

AdventHealth Orlando is deeply involved in community health initiatives. Notably, it partnered with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office to combat the opioid crisis, leading to the establishment of the Hope & Healing Center in Sanford, Florida.

Educational Partnerships

The hospital serves as a teaching institution, affiliated with AdventHealth University and, as of February 2023, partnered with Loma Linda University School of Medicine. This collaboration allows medical students to complete their clinical training at AdventHealth Orlando, reinforcing its commitment to medical education.

Through its dedication to comprehensive patient care, medical innovation, and community service, AdventHealth Orlando continues to uphold its mission of “Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ,” striving to promote wholeness and health for all.
