ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County voters who still want a mail ballot for the general election can no longer have one sent to them. The window to request a mailed ballot closed at 5 p.m. Thursday, but several options remain for voters in Orlando and across the county.

Voters can still collect a vote-by-mail ballot in person at the Supervisor of Elections office, 119 W. Kaley St. in Orlando, any day through Election Day, or skip the mail entirely and vote in person at an early voting site or on Election Day.

Orange County’s top elections official, Supervisor of Elections Karen Castor Dentel, wants voters to cast ballots ahead of time, early or by mail, so there is room to count them all before results are due. For anyone mailing a ballot back, she recommends getting it in the mail at least a week ahead of Election Day, which works out to Oct. 27.

Voters who received a ballot late may not have time to fill it out and send it back by mail. Instead, completed mail ballots can be dropped off at any of the county’s 27 early voting sites, and the office has added new early voting locations this year to make sites easier to reach.

Castor Dentel said most voters are still returning their ballots by mail and called it a safe option, adding that postal workers give ballots priority handling.

More than 822,000 people are registered to vote in Orange County, and figures posted by the elections office show more than 126,000 mail ballots had been requested so far. Voters with questions about mail ballots can contact the elections office by phone or email, the same ways a request could be sent before the deadline.
