ORLANDO, Fla. — Two longtime Orlando favorites on East Colonial Drive, Izziban Sushi and BBQ and the Snowbean dessert cafe next door, have shut down, and the restaurant group buying their lakeside property says it plans to open a heavily themed restaurant there.
Atelier Dining Group, the Winter Garden company behind Helena Modern Riviera, Rosallie Le French Cafe and Mangoni Italian Market Pizza, is in the process of acquiring the lakeside parcel at 5310 E. Colonial Drive. The group has stressed that it is buying the building and land, not the two businesses, and that the sale is not final yet. It has not shared a name, menu or opening date for the new concept.
Snowbean gave customers almost no notice. In an Oct. 14 Instagram post, the shop said it would shut its doors at 5 p.m. the same day and said the news had caught the staff off guard too. Izziban stopped taking online orders but never posted a closing notice of its own. State licensing records now tie its food service and alcohol licenses to TMP Atelier LLC, a Florida company.
Neither business has explained why it closed, though plans to sell and redevelop the property had reportedly been in the works for months.
Izziban opened in 2007, offering all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue alongside sushi, and it repeatedly won reader votes as one of the best Korean restaurants in Orlando. Snowbean arrived about 10 years later, serving Korean desserts such as bingsu, a shaved milk ice, along with coffee and tea. The cafe grew from a spot for Izziban diners into a hangout for students, remote workers and couples, and its waterfront deck became known for the padlocks visitors clipped to the railing.
